Features
SILC Client is a full featured SILC client, is simple and easy to use, yet
highly configurable to meet every user needs. You can use your SILC client
to chat with your friends or with your colleagues in your office SILC network.
You can also exchange files securely between other users.
Full SILC Protocol 1.2 Support
The SILC Client includes full implementation of the latest SILC protocol
version 1.2. All features of the protocol are implemented, including
the latest new features like session detaching, digitally signed
channel and private messages and support for friends list where you can
save your friends public keys, certificates, pictures, busines card, etc.
Easy To Use, Simple To Learn
SILC Client is easy to use even for a first timer. The SILC Client's user
interface is familiar to almost every chatter on the planet which makes it
very easy and fast to learn use SILC. The SILC Client is ready for chatting
immediately after installation. When run for the very first time a new
SILC Public Key pair is created for you, and with HELP command extensive
help files becomes available and help you to learn more.
Multimedia Messages
SILC Client supports sending and receiving of any kind of messages,
including multimedia messages such as images, music, video and audio
messages and similar. Sending multimedia messages is easy with one
simple command, and also these messages can be digitally signed.
Multimedia messages can be sent to both channel and directly to other
users using private messages.
UTF-8 Supported Messages
All text messages that are sent using SILC Client are UTF-8 encoded by
default. This allows users from any region in the world to communicate
using their own language and own alphabets. The SILC Client is able to
work on non UTF-8 terminals as well.
Secured Messages, Secured File Transfers
All the basic SILC features like encrypted channel messages and private
messages, digitally signed channel and private mesages, peer to peer key
agreement between other users for additional security, encrypted peer to
peer file transfers, are available in SILC Client. Session detaching makes
it possible to stop chatting, for example to change a machine or to change
a server without actually signing off from the network.
Usefull Features
With SILC Client you can also fetch other users public keys through the network
and save them for future use. You can also fetch your friends business
cards, pictures, and other information and save them to a buddy list. You
can add your friends nicknames to a watch list and get a notification when
they sign on in the network or change their nickname or leave for a coffee.
You can tell other users your mood, preferred contact method, geolocation,
and other information through the extended WHOIS command.
Highly Configurable User Interface
The SILC Client is based on the popular Irssi client's user interface which
makes it possible to create new themes for the client, use Irssi scripts and
plugins and configure the user interface as much as you like. You can
configure the appearance, colors and message formats the way you want them
to appear on the screen.
